The MINE Choir is the church choir comprising members from the MINE churches of East Newcastle. This incoporates the churches of:
St Martin's, Byker
St Michael's, Byker
St Silas', Byker
St Anthony's of Egypt, Walker
Christ Church, Walker
The choir meets on a weekly basis to rehearse and offers its services to the church and community by way of singing at services, special events and performing concerts.
People of all ages and ability are welcome to attend the choir. It is free to join, there are no auditions and previous experience is not required. The choir welcomes all who enjoy singing!

About Us
The MINE Choir first met and rehearsed on Saturday 11th February 2012 as a result of a few keen singers, members of St Martin's congregation, expressing an interest in forming a choir. The choir thus began with those few members, keen to sing, learn new music, learn to read music and sing as a choir complete with harmonies. With many performances at the MINE churches, members started to grow as people heard the choir sing. This also led to members from the other MINE churches joining, making the choir a true community project.
Rehearsals are normally held at the weekend at St Martin's Church. They last on average two hours and cover the learning of new hymns and songs as well as reviewing the current repertoire. Choir members are given music and CD tracks for the complete repertoire and are encouraged in the learning of reading music and practising with the CD tracks. Learning to read music is taught at most rehearsals.
As a church based choir our music base is drawn primarily from sacred works, although we do incorporate some contemporary music with religious undertones. The majority of the repertoire is custom arranged by our Director of Music in settings mainly for two or three part harmonies.
